Northern Thai Forest in a cup of Tea
Time & Location
About the Event
Our passion for tea has been turning into a project to support hill tribe communities in the North of Thailand; Mountain People Planet; to grow organic tea and harvest wild whole-leaf tea from ancient tea trees in the forest.
Historically, these communities spread across the Himalayas in Tibet, Yunan in China, to Northern regions of Myanmar and Thailand, so tea is an inherent part of their culture. The mountains they reside today are important ecological spot for Thailand. Kanjana’s project fuses local tea collection wisdom with Taiwanese tea fermentation technologies, helping conserve the traditional livelihoods as well as the forest, one cuppa tea at a time!
What we’ll do
We will meet you at a quiet café on the lush green Wireless Road, (a quick walk from BTS Phloen Chit). Together, we will explore the terrains and history of Thailand’s Northern hills and the hill tribe people through 6 tea varieties selected for this experience. Each cup holds a story—from the traditional Oolong, to the classic red tea, to the raw Pu’er plucked from an 800 years-old tea plant! All our teas are whole-leaf: wild or organically grown, harvested, processed in an ethical and environmentally-conscious manner (not your average bagged “tea dust”.
All teas will be brewed and served in the Kung Fu Tea Ceremony style, the root of all tea ceremonies, so that all the health benefits will be maintained through the brewing process.
We will discuss the teas down to the T: what makes a good tea? Is there a way to know if your tea is TRULY organic? Is tea healthy? But most importantly, this is a moment for all of us to disconnect to connect, take a break from our fast-paced lives and enjoy the simple pleasures such as a cup of tea and each other’s company, knowing how each cup you enjoy contributes to the rain forest conservation and hill tribe people's livelihoods
What else you should know
For traceability, ur teas are harvested from three mountains: Doi Phu Muen, Doi Wawee, and Doi Tung. This is a great way to take a quick break from Bangkok; a nice gift for yourself and your loved ones, or a great corporate bonding experience!
